He knew he'd have to explain when he said it. It was just so unbelievable that he had to let it sink in first. Which is why it took a second or two for him to answer her.

"Samuel Colt, the firearms guy? He was a hunter." That part of the story wasn't in question. Imagine Damon's horror when he found out the man who designed the weapon he was carrying during the war would have killed the woman he loved on the spot, just because of what she was. One more reason defecting was one of the best ideas he ever had.

But they aren't talking about that.

"There were rumors that he made a gun that could kill anything. Of course, he died a few years before I even met Katherine, and the gun was nowhere to be found. I assumed it didn't exist." He had no idea someone had come across it, or who had it now, but whoever had used it to kill Klaus was getting a big, sloppy kiss on the lips when he found them, gender be damned.
